III. Special types and forms of final qualifications in higher education

A. Academies of physical education:

These schools award the vocational title of trener (coach). All graduates of physical education department are trained to be school teachers.

Graduates of other departments (coaching, correction of posture defects, physiotherapy, organisation and management) may complete a post-graduate programme in the area of teaching.

Graduates of departments of tourism and recreation obtain the professional title of instruktor turustyki (tourist instructor) and instruktor rekreacji (recreation instructor).

B. Academies of art (supervised by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage /Ministerstwo Kultury i Dzirdzictwa Narodowego/):

The professional title of magister sztuki (magister in artistic area) entitles its holders to work in artistic professions as teachers of artistic subjects (fine art, music, theatre, film, etc.) in schools and higher education institutions, and to apply for the doktor degree or for kwalifikacje pierwszego stopnia.

C. Wyższa Szkoła Policji in Szczytno - School of Police (supervised by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Administration /Ministerstwo Spraw Wewnętrznych i Administracji/):

This school offers a special form of education under three-year vocational training courses.

All graduates are promoted to the first officer rank and obtain the professional title of oficer dyplomowany (certified officer), this being the title of higher vocational education at the bachelor level. They are entitled to continue their education in civilian institutions of higher education.

In addition to policemen, the academy trains officers for the Border Guard, State Security Office (Urząd Ochrony Państwa), Government Guard Agency (Biuro Ochrony Rządu) and Military Police.

D. Szkoła Główna Służby Pożarniczej in Warsaw – Central School of Fire Service (supervised by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Administration /Ministerstwo Spraw Wewnętrznych i Administracji/):

This is a technical type of academy which trains commanding staff (officers) for all organisational units of the State Fire-Fighting System.

Graduates are conferred the following professional titles :

Students are also granted the professional title of młodszy kapitan (junior captain) directly upon completion of studies at the inżynier level.

E. Military academies and colleges (supervised by the Ministry of National Defence /Ministerstwo Obrony Narodowej/):

These schools form a part of the national education system and combine academic or educational aims with the needs of the national defence.

The basic objective of military higher education is to provide commanders and specialists for the army, teaching and academic staff for the military academies and colleges as well as for research and development institutions supervised by the Minister of National Defence.

Graduates of the academies/colleges obtain the title of inżynier, magister inżynier or lekarz (at the Military Academy of Medicine) respectively, and are granted the title of podporucznik (Second Lieutenant or Pilot Officer) upon completion of the magister-level studies.

Graduates of higher education institutions may continue their education (or academic career) in order to obtain certificates/diplomas of completing post-graduate/post-diploma studies.
